Phyllis J. Harris – Metropolitan Funeral

Miss me a little, but not for long

And not with your head bowed low

Remember the love that once we shared

Miss me, but let me go

In the early morning hours of March 23, 2023 the Lord deemed it necessary to take away from us our dearly beloved Phyllis Jean.  Phyllis was born September 22, 1955 to the union of Robert and Delores Evans Mitchell.  She was the 3rd of nine children.  Phyllis was reared in the fear of the Lord as a very young girl In the Smyrna Church of Christ Holy Disciples.  There, you would hear her singing her signature song, “Help Me Lift Jesus”, accompanied by her brother, Lorenzo.  The two of them didn’t back from rejoicing down the aisles as they sang.  She attended the Booker T. Washington High School in Norfolk, VA.

Gone before her are her Father, Robert Lee Evans; Mother, Delores Evans; Sisters, Louise and Deborah Evans; Paternal Grandmother, Lucille Evans; Paternal Grandmother, Cassie Lee Mitchell; and Paternal Grandfather, McCarthy Mitchell.  She leaves to cherish her beautiful memory a Son, Lawrence B. Evans (Katrina); 3 Grandchildren, Breon White, Lavita Woods, and Tasha Rogers; 3 Brothers, Robert L. Evans (Veronica); Lorenzo Evans (Madeline) and Raymond B. Evans; 3 Sisters, Gwen D. Evans, Felecia R. Evans, and Sharon F. Evans McHaney, along with a host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, Aunts, Uncles and friends  Also left to cherish her memory is her long-time partner in life, Eric Schmidt, and dear friend, Ms. Barbara J. Schmidt

For this is a journey we all must take

And each must go it alone

It’s all part of the master plan

A step on the road to home

So, when you are lonely and sick at heart

Go to the friends we both know

Laugh at all the things we used to do

Miss me, but let me go
